Last week, the Norwegian car organisation NAF carried out its extensive winter range test, where the first stage aim to see how the actual range compares to the stated WLTP range.
The cars used in the tests are often press cars that the car manufacturers lend for the occasion. However, Toyota did not want to participate in this year’s edition, since they believe the tests they participated in previously have given an unfair picture of their cars.
Nevertheless, there was a Toyota bZ4X on the starting line in this year’s winter edition of the test. Moreover, it was one of the cars with the biggest deviation from the WLTP in the results. It turned out that NAF rented a Toyota bZ4X for the tests. Now Toyota Norway is sharply criticising the tests and believes that it is unfair that NAF pitted a used Toyota bZ4X against new cars.
– As far as we know, this is the first time a well-used rental car is used as a test car in this range test. It has not been the practice when other car brands have declined to participate. We believe that it is not fair to compare new and used cars in the same test, Toyota writes in their statement.
Toyota has previously said that they dislike the tests, as they only focus on range: “Something that is not relevant in everyday life”.
