For quite some time now, The Chinese electric car manufacturer Nio has talked about a battery that will take their cars further than 1000 kilometers on a single charge. The way they will make it happen is through a completely new semi solid state battery with a semi-solid gel-like electrolyte.
Recently Nio’s CEO William Li personally tested the battery in live conditions on the road. He embarked on a journey with the Nio ET7 from Shanghai to Xiamen City in China. The entire drive could be followed through a live broadcast. During the trip, William Li had various guests with him, and they only stopped to eat and for toilet breaks.

– The range challenge with the 150 kWh battery is finished with a final result of 1044 kilometers, William Li communicates in social media. The battery performed better than expected in cold circumstances and in the evening they arrived in Xiamen City with 3 percent left in the battery.
– More importantly, all models on sale can be upgraded to 150kWh batteries through Nio’s battery exchange system, adds William Li.
The CEO is happy with the results, and claims that the 150 kWh Long Range battery is currently the battery pack with the highest energy density in mass production in the world and has excellent safety performance.
