Yesterday, Kia presented its investment in electric vans. The new vans will be based on an entirely new platform that has been specially developed for the purpose, and comes with a truly unique feature. During the presentation, Kia showed off the feature called Easy Swap. It is an idea that Kia expects to be able to realize from 2027. The new vehicles developed by Kia will be based on a construction with a basic chassi that is connected with a superstructure.
Behind a fixed cab, or the “driver’s zone”, a number of replaceable add-on parts, or “life modules” can be connected via electromagnetic and mechanical coupling technology.
The idea is that a customer should be able to buy a base and then equip it with different modules depending on purpose. The transport vehicle can function as a pickup one day, on another occasion as a covered delivery van and on a third day as a minibus for passenger traffic by simply switching between the different modules.
